Australian Shepherds at Alamar have historically been bred and raised with outstanding health and temperament. They were exposed to stock daily and achieved many herding titles as well as agility and conformation titles. They also worked in animal assisted therapy settings in schools and hospitals. Although Alamar has chosen not to breed Australian Shepherds any more, we still have 2 of our most successful dogs and they will live out their lives being loved at Alamar. We are especially proud of one of Favor's offspring. Not for his accomplishment in the breed ring, or the herding arena, but because of his exceptional temperament that has allowed him to become one of the country's leading Animal Assisted Therapy Dogs.

Bart was bred by Laura Burdett out of our own Favor and raised by our good friend Diana Barefoot. Bart started out to be a show dog, but as sometimes happen, he just didn't turn out physically to be what we needed for the breed ring. After much discussion, it was decided to place Bart in a pet home. I happened to remember a family that had contacted me looking for a pet and I gave them a call. The rest, as they say, is history! The Babinec family took Bart home and allowed him to develop into an outstanding companion and excel in his biggest strength...loving people.

You can read more about Bart and Linda on the following website where you will learn about an amazing organization that is helping people in hospitals and shelters forget their troubles for a little while with a little help from some "Sharing Paws Across America". Visit their site and find out how you can get involved in Animal Assisted Therapy.
