Alamar made a respectable showing at the Border Collie National Specialty in Jefferson, WI.
The trip started out on October 3rd at 5:00 in the morning with 9 people, 18 dogs and 4 puppies hitting the road. We decided to drive it straight through and arrived at Marie's Mom's house in Kroghville around 10:30 Saturday night. She was, of course still up and dying to make us something to eat. We pottied dogs and then layed out the bedding in the basement, dormitory style.
Sunday morning we awoke to a beautiful fall day. We spent the morning helping Marie's mom, Gertrude work in the flower beds, then we went to Verona to visit Alan's brother Dale, his wife and their 2 beautiful daughters, their husbands and Dale's pride and joy, granddaughter, Lucy Dale. We went out to eat and got to catch up. It was a great visit.
Monday morning found the crew heading out at 6:15 to the Jefferson County fairgrounds. It was cool and had been raining but we were prepared with warm clothes and boots. The courses were all pretty spread out so we did a lot of walking to go from one course to another. This meant we didn't get to watch a lot of each other as we were running from one place to another.
I think our dogs had a little bit of a hard time with the sheep at first. They were big woolies which most of our dogs had never worked but by the 2nd day they got it together and worked it out. We had some really good runs, some not so good, and some in between. Most importantly, we had a great time. Monday night we had a big get-together at Gerturdes and had friends and family over for brats! It was a great time and even better food.
